When the city skyline is lit up at night, it may make a pretty sight, but lighting up those empty buildings comes at a high price. Lighting typically accounts for up to 40% of the electricity used in commercial buildings, and the cost of that power is creeping up year by year.

One of the easiest ways to reduce energy use and cut costs (and emissions) is to turn off lights when they are not required, and the most reliable way to do this is to automate the process. Many of today's lighting control and building automation systems provide time clocks which automatically turn on, off, or dims lights at specified times of the day. These scheduled lighting events can apply to either all lights within a building, or only to those in a specific "zone" (for example, entrance, hallway, cafeteria, office, or even an individual fixture).

Scheduling not only saves energy and money, it also helps buildings to comply with the "automatic shut-off of building lighting" requirements of energy codes such as ASHRAE 90.1 and California Title 24.

Our intuitive Web-based software walks the user through creating and modifying scheduled events, which can be applied to either a single day or to multiple days (for example, specify the same event for each week day), and also to a single zone or to multiple zones.

Scheduled events can also contain conditions, which enable other energy saving measures such as occupancy control and daylight harvesting to be incorporated into the lighting schedule.

Monitoring tools show at a glance the current lighting levels for each zone within the system. Users can also temporarily over-ride conditions (illumination levels) for specific zones, or even individual fixtures, to accommodate special requirements.
