Daintree Networks Wins LEDs Magazine Sapphire Award
LOS ALTOS, Calif.—March 7, 2016—Daintree Networks®, the leader in open networked wireless control, sensing, and Enterprise Internet of Things™ solutions for smart buildings, has won the LED Drivers category at the second annual LEDs Magazine Sapphire Awards. The winners were announced at the awards gala dinner held on March 2, 2016, in Santa Clara, Calif., to coincide with the Strategies in Light and The LED Show conferences. The Sapphires are the first awards program in the LED and solid-state lighting (SSL) sectors honoring innovation in enabling-technologies and elegance-of-design in finished lighting products.
Daintree Networks has led the industry in reducing solution cost of advanced networked control and sensing. This includes helping lighting manufacturers eliminate unnecessary material costs through innovations that leverage open standards. The company worked with LG Innotek to create a line of LED lighting drivers with embedded wireless communication capability. Utilizing open source firmware by Daintree Networks, LG Innotek designed and built its new driver line with an integrated small-form factor, pluggable ZigBee® module. Integrated wireless drivers eliminate the need for separate wireless adapters and associated wiring. This is highly attractive to luminaire manufacturers looking for a simple and low-cost route to wireless connectivity and control.
“Our partnership with LG Innotek reinforces our industry commitment to provide open wireless networking solutions to enable the Enterprise Internet of ThingsTM (E-IoTTM),” said Danny Yu, President at Daintree Networks, Inc. “By designing and building their new ZigBee driver, LG Innotek has created a first-of-its-kind, open-standard solution in the LED driver category. Together, we are broadening access to cost-effective, out-of-the-box solutions to enterprise customers upgrading to energy-efficient networked controlled lighting and deploying future-proof IoT infrastructure for other high-value applications.”
“Daintree has done a great job in advancing the adoption of networked solid-state lighting and using open standards to do so,” said Maury Wright, editor-in-chief of LEDs Magazine. “The collaboration with LG Innotek that resulted in the Sapphire-winning, ZigBee-enabled, LED driver represents another significant step towards more connected lighting because the wireless driver will enable luminaire makers to more easily and cost-effectively add connectivity to their products.”
The new LG Innotek driver can be used by luminaire manufacturers in LED troffers, linear fixtures, and retrofit kits, which interact seamlessly with Daintree Networks ControlScope® networked wireless control solution. The combination is expected to result in significant savings for users, both in up-front installation costs (up to 85 percent) and in energy efficiency following installation. By using open standards-based wireless lighting, facility managers now have the foundation for the Enterprise-IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications in their commercial buildings.
